Merry Christmas 2021

2021 was another challenging and turbulent year, with 365 special days behind us. We all learned how to deal with new situations and challenges, what it means to find new ways at short notice when everyday things go off the rails.

Dear friends, members and supporters!

We have not buried our heads in the sand; quite the opposite: we have rolled up our sleeves and taken on new tasks. And this was only possible with your generous support! A heartfelt thank you for being by our side over the last 12 months – for your loyalty; we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! With a lot of courage, creativity, heart, and soul – and of course, your help – we have accepted the crisis and emerged stronger.

Without question, the health of our children is our top priority. More than 160 children between the ages of 2 and 15 are in our care – 160 children to whom we are privileged to give a home. And all the children have survived the pandemic without a Corona infection. This was due to the precautionary measures taken and to the sense of responsibility of every Happy Watoto Homes & School staff member and the families of the children. Thanks to the great commitment of our social workers, we were able to provide safe accommodation for the children, also within their families – during school closures due to the pandemic and during the holidays.

A good education for our children is very important to us. From the very beginning, we want to develop the skills of each and every student, that is our expressed goal and our Happy Watoto School. Among other things, this involves being able to apply what they have learned in everyday life. There is no better preparation for life.

And our children also enjoy supporting us in our daily work. With a lot of enthusiasm and a thirst for knowledge. The older children helped us with the “inventory” of our Happy Watoto buildings. For this undertaking, for example, drawings and sketches had to be made and calculations had to be carried out—another “project”: growing our own fruit and vegetables. Here, too, many small and big hands support us. Little hobby gardeners on a grand scale!

We are especially proud and happy about the successful final exams of our 7th graders. Most of them will attend secondary school and later college. Each of them has found their personal path in life, which makes us so happy!

We are so grateful that we can offer our Good Hope children a real future. Growing up in security and safety. But for this we need you! Because only with your support can our projects continue to be realised. Let us do good together – let us give away happiness together, no matter if it is big or small.

“Happiness often comes from attention to small things” ~ Wilhelm Busch

We wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May 2022 be a year full of happiness for us all!
